I kind of like the idea of sparking people to communicate more as you posit, but does this tool allow people to interact but in more shallow, less meaningful ways- rather then help people develop more intimate tighter bonds...Is that what we want people to be dedicating so much time doing?

What is interesting? Being out in nature may not be as in your face stimulating as many things in the human made world. But that just means taping into/ developing an ability to not have things kick you in the face in order to hold one's interest. The natural world is cool and amazing. Water alone - I mean that is some crazy shit- full of different living species- the movement of water often causes some emotion- can be calming can be alerting. Nature is inspiring- sometimes inspiration comes in contemplation in the absence of intention. I say bring on nature!
