livescribe pulse

The best solution I've found to date to this problem is the livescribe pulse pen (I haven't tried any of the other digital pens though)

You can use the moleskin, and put your notes or doodles in it. The notes get then uploaded to the computer, and some handwriting recognition is done, so that you can search through the notes.

You can also record audio. A cool thing is that you don't HAVE to keep the paper. I often will walk in to listen to a talk with a piece of paper and the pen. At the end of the talk, I just toss the paper, because my notes are in the pen.

I have to warn you, though, the support software works, but is not perfect - you can delete pages, reorder pages, or tag pages. You can export to pdf, and then import to evernote, though. So read through the support forum, and decide if you want to get into this mess. I did, and I don't regret it.
